I don't live in Austin. Can I still schedule with you?
If you have a permanent residence in Texas, then I can take you on as a client.
Do you take insurance?
For individuals, yes, I currently take the following insurances: Aetna, All Savers, AvMed, Bind, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, EAP: United Health/Optum, Evernorth, Golden Rule, Optumhealth Complex Medical Conditions, Oscar, United Health/Optum, United Medical Resources, Unitedhealthcare Life Insurance, Unitedhealthcare Shared Services, Unitedhealthcare StudentResources

For couples, I no longer take insurance. In short, insurance companies do not pay well for these. In my experience, couples therapy is more challenging work as we have to account for each individual and the relationship, so I no longer take insurance for couples therapy.

Are there any cons to using insurance?
In order to have insurance pay for your therapy, I have to give you a mental disorder diagnosis. That’s not the way I prefer to work.

Then, depending on the insurance company, I may have to write a report every 5-10 sessions to show that you’re still sick with that mental disorder. For them to continue paying for therapy, my report needs to show that you’re still sick and getting better, but that you aren’t cured yet. I would prefer not to have to write a report that shares details of your mental disorder.

I prefer to decide with you how well our therapy is going instead of an insurance company. Finally, if you’re self-employed or ever plan to be, then a mental disorder diagnosis on your record can make getting health care insurance very expensive.

These are the reasons I do not prefer to use insurance.
